Many new job openings have been recently posted on our website. This is a great time to find a career with Sikorksy Aircraft Corporation/ Schweizer Aircraft. We build the BLACKHAWK and NAVAL HAWK helicopters at this site as well as build a multitude of other commercial helicopters and special military recon airplanes. We currently have posted approximately 50 new assembly jobs, 25 or more inspector positions, multiple engineering positions.
Several residents of Ithaca , Candor, Owego, Waverly, Sayre, Endicott and Binghamton to name a few, are currently working at one of our two aircraft manufacturing facilities located at the Elmira/Corning Regional Airport in Horseheads.

Horseheads is just a few miles from Candor and an easy drive.
To be eligible you must not have a criminal record and be able to pass a drug screening and physical exam. We are governed by Federal Statues (FAA/DOT regulations) as an OEM and have a routine drug screening program – so we randomly screen on a regular basis.

4-H Quilting Workshop

A free 4-H quilting workshop for youth (age 8 and up) and adults will be offered on
Saturday, March 13 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm
at the Cooperative Extension Education Center, 615 Willow Avenue in Ithaca.
        All participants should already have BASIC sewing skills needed to complete either a
“9-Square” or “Crazy Quilt” pillow top. Each person needs to bring their own lunch,
1 yard of neutral color cotton fabric, small pieces (at least 6”) of cotton fabric for the pillow cover, d a 14” pillow form.
Additional fabric and thread will be provided.
The ”Crazy Quilt” pillow top was a favorite project of Elma Canfield,
a long-time 4-H volunteer and an exceptional sewing teacher, in whose memory the workshop is being
offered by members of the Tompkins County Quilters Guild and the Tompkins County 4-H Program Committee.
        Workshop participants also will explore how messages and ideas can be expressed through
fabric and fiber art. Reference books on “Freedom Quilts” will be available for review,
as well as examples of other quilts and quilt projects.

This event will be co-sponsored by the American Legion Family and the Candor Emergency Squad.

Information on getting registered will be forthcoming. Funds are raised for St. Baldrick’s by people or businesses sponsoring you or donating to you for getting your head shaved. Thousands of children lose their hair each year due to chemo treatments for their cancer. This is a way you can show your support for the children. The big difference is that this is “your choice” to shave your head – the kids don’t have that choice and the other is that “your hair” will grow back a lot faster. In the US, more children die of childhood cancer than any other disease, and to date, over 106,000 volunteers have shaved their heads in solidarity with kids fighting cancer.

The event is still in its planning stages and we are looking for licensed cosmetologists or barbers to help out. We plan to have food, music, raffles, and hat sales during the event.

St. Baldrick's funds are granted to some of the most brilliant childhood cancer research experts in the world to find cures and improve the quality of life for patients and survivors. The Foundation funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U.S. government.

The Candor Planning Board anticipates an increase in gas drilling and related activities in the near future. Before that happens, the planning board is looking for ways to prepare the community for possible large-scale development.
From now through March 15, the Candor Planning Board is asking Candor residents to help them identify key resources and facilities in the Town. Areas of natural, agricultural, historical, or cultural significance in Candor need to be identified. The survey also asks for information on well water and any abandoned gas wells in the area.

The “Critical Environmental Areas survey” is short and takes only a few minutes to complete. Copies of the survey will be available at the Town Hall, Post Office, Candor Free Library and Tioga State Bank. There’s also an online survey form at http://candorny. us (if this doesn't come through as a link, copy and paste it into your browser)
Many Candor residents will remember that ten years ago the Candor Planning Board, assisted by many community members, developed a Comprehensive Plan. That plan offers guidance and focus for future development and growth in the Town of Candor . The information collected from the “Critical Environmental Areas survey” will support and enhance the Comprehensive Plan. Please take the time to fill out a survey and return it to the Planning Board. Animals and Medicine 4-H Youth Program

            A six-session mini-course for youth who are interested in veterinary medicine will be offered beginning April 1 at the Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine. Sponsored by the Tompkins County 4-H Program, “Animals and Medicine” is designed for 9–12 graders with an interest in biology, medicine and animals. The course will be taught by Cornell veterinary students, and will include guest presentations by Cornell veterinary professors.

           “Animals and Medicine” will take place at the Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. The first meeting will be on Thursday, April 1; the next five meetings will be on Friday evenings (April 9, 16, 23, 30 and May 7). Each session will focus on a different animal species or group of animals, including cats, dogs, horses, ruminants, swine, and some exotics. Hands-on activities will include: practicing a physical exam, discovering the inner workings of the rumen, learning about animal anatomy, and getting messy with dissection.
            Enrollment is limited to fifteen students. A $40 registration fee covers all program materials and resources, including a pizza party at the final meeting. Every two seconds, someone needs blood. With that many donations are needed,
it's almost impossible that blood donation won't touch your life.
The reason people need blood are numerous. Accident and burn victims,
Cancer patients, Children with blood disorders, Patients with sickle cell disease.
The list goes on. You can donate every 56 days.
Everyday in the United States 38,000 donations are needed.
So please their is a real need for blood please make that call.

Tioga County Fitness Challenge Bicycle Race Time Trial

Calling all Cyclists! As the last event for 2010, the TCFC is holding the
“Bicycle Race Time Trial” on Saturday morning, August 14, 2009
at the Candor Fire Hall, 74 Owego Rd (Rt. 96B).
This event coincides with Bike Tioga (see www.biketioga.com, call 1-800-671-7772),
but is for those cyclists who would rather race than tour.
It is possible for cyclists to participate with both bike race and tour.
Candor Fire Company Auxiliary and
TOPS #1128 (Take Off Pounds Sensibly)
will be hosting this event. Registration is from 8:00-8:45 AM. Riders start out 8:30AM.
All individuals and teams from Tioga County and surrounding areas are invited to participate.
Helmets are required. This will be a Time Trial event.
Competitors will be sent off individually and try to beat the clock! No drafting;
just continuous effort. The course is 6 miles around the Candor Gridleyville loop.
Those aged 9-12 years and 70 years plus ride for 1 lap. Everyone else does 2 laps for a
total of 12 miles. Registration fee $10 to benefit Candor Fire Department Auxiliary and TOPS.
